3 "A" Bereavement Foundation Celebrates 25 Years!

Cheers to 25 Years 🎉

Our history spans back 25 years, but our mission remains the same: We want to give low-income bereaved families access to the assistance they need before, during and after end-of-life services. Our goal is to help bereaved families thrive and not just survive the death of their loved ones.

In 1997, our journey began with the provision of funeral consulting services for low-income families in the Greater Houston Area. As a licensed funeral director, 3ABF Founder Michele Lara, gave grieving families the guidance they needed to make the most economical decisions while putting their loved ones to rest.

Fast forward 25 years and our services have grown tremendously. We opened a physical location in Houston in November of 2000. We launched a financial aid program to help supplement funeral/burial services, grief counseling program, community outreach program, aftercare program, and crime victims’ assistance program to ensure those who qualify receive benefits through the state.

In 2002, we applied for a grant from Compaq Computer Corporation. We were denied because we didn't have any technology programs or services. But they suggested that we apply to be a charity in their marathon. We did that from 2002-2006. In 2007, we started participating in Chevron's annual marathon as a charity. This marathon is our main fundraiser and it has helped us raise over $350,000 so far!

We've seen firsthand the transformative power of grief counseling and support groups, and we're proud to have been a part of helping so many people through their journey of grief. We know that the grieving process is unique for everyone, and we'll continue to be here for anyone who needs us.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years, whether you've made a donation, volunteered your time, or just shared our mission with others.

Go, Team, GO!!

Congratulations to everyone who ran in the Marathon, Half Marathon or Houston 5K Races for Team 3ABF in the 2022 Chevron Marathon. YOU DID IT! We are so grateful for your participation and support. We are also grateful for each donor and everyone who voted for us in the charity polls last year. Together, we raised $36,634. This was just $3,366 shy of our $40,000 goal. Because of you, we can further our mission of serving grieving families this year.

We're now gearing up for the 2023 Chevron Houston Marathon. Visit our website to learn how you can run (or walk) with Team 3ABF next year. Grab a friend to join you in a race for a meaningful cause.

3ABF is making a difference in Houston.
Help us make an even bigger one!

According to Data USA, 466,320 Houston residents live under the poverty rate. With the national average funeral cost being $8,121, it’s no surprise that so many struggle to fund their loved one’s end-of-life service. As the only nonprofit offering comprehensive bereavement in Houston, 3ABF carries a heavy load. Our goal is to leave no legitimate request for assistance unanswered. You can make an incredible impact by providing a one-time or monthly donation to 3 “A” Bereavement Foundation. Your donation will help bereaved families inspire hope and give them the tools they need to heal.
